It seems that every province in Austria has its’ golfing gems but Salzburgerland has been greedy. Perhaps the Altentann club has an unfair advantage.
Designed by Jack Nicklaus to make maximum use of the lush countryside the course is an immaculate blend of undulating fairways and manicured greens. Richly deserving of it’s ranking in the top three courses in Austria the Peugeot Guide groups Altentann in the same league as Gleneagles, Wentworth and Sunningdale for quality. High praise indeed and you won’t be disappointed. It’s a park-land course with that hint of the great Scottish Links that the ‘Golden Bear’ put into many of his early designs. The clubhouse, surrounded by a blaze of wild flowers, is a joy in itself and a match for any golf setting in the world.
STC Golf Team’s verdict:
“Definitely one of Jack’s better courses, you’ll wonder why Austria wasn’t on your golf itinerary before now. A thoroughly pleasurable experience.”
